More Germany!

Well hello everyone!! I can not believe that it is already the end of my second week of DTS here in Herrnhut, Germany! The first week seemed like an eternity and this week passed by in the blink of an eye. I've been told that the weeks will go by faster and faster. Definitely a bitter sweet thing.

So, I promised you guys more photos since I didn't post any last blog, but unfortunately this will probably be my last massive picture upload. I LOVE LOVE LOVE sharing photos and letting everyone know what is going on, but there are two reasons this will be the last photo explosion. 1.) We have limited internet time and it takes lots of time and data to upload photos. 2.) All of these photos have just been snapshots from my iphone and I'm sure to no ones surprise my phone is kind of sorta broken =((  The camera stopped working. Everything else is fine, but my camera. This has happened before, so I guess it is a software problem. I haven't poured a water bottle on it, dropped it in a toilet and it hasn't been punched by concrete. So NOT mY FAU:T! =) haha This also means no instagramming =( But I am being positive and am excited to really get into shooting with my actual DSLR. (For those of you who don’t know, that is my big girl professional looking camera).

Here are photos from my adventures last week. Lots of fun memories and good time growing closer to friends! Especially my friend Jesus ;) (Hah corny I know). But really. I am totally ok with admitting that the last few days of last week I was sick to my stomach missing home! Not necessarily the US, Texas or my house, but my mommy and daddy, the rest of my family and my friends.  God has been moving so much in our DTS and my heart and I am so used to being able to run to my friends and family and tell them how excited I am or sometimes how awful I feel.  It wasn’t very fun, but I learned. I learned how incredibly blessed I am to have so many people to miss.  I pray for lots of people back home and it always brings a smile to my face that I am able to do that for you guys and even though I am across the world I am a part of what God is doing in your lives. And I also learned and have known this about myself for a while, but I run to people first a lot of times that I should be running to God first. There are tons of great people here and I get along with everyone just fine, but those deep relationships that I am used to with my family and friends haven’t developed here for me quite yet.  So, I ran to Jesus.  And really found out that as fast as you are running toward him, he is running back to you so much faster! It’s so so good! That as his daughter I completely have the right to run to him and be alone with him. And talk and hear from him. He is so good! So, I hope you enjoy the photos!

I was super jealous of everyone back home posting first day of school status’ and school photos so I thought I would take one for my mommy! (She wasn’t a fan of my turquoise pants haha)

You can’t really see it very well, but I have this sweet yellow jacket on that I love. Anthonette left last week =( My jacket that mom sent hadn’t arrived in the mail yet so she let me use hers while she is away. Ahhh, I love this community.

Sally this one is for you! Love this song! “There is power in the name of Jesus, to break every chain”! When we worship to this song on Monday mornings it is so loud with the whole school stomping on the wood floors. Gives me chills just thinking about it. God has done so much in our school already. We are a huge family preparing to go out in Jesus name, united. I can’t wait to see how he uses us to help lead people to freedom in Him!

A quick shot while in lecture. I think it is so cool that this is the only book I have to read for my classes! And the fact that we walk around here barefoot all the time.

This was our introductions into our tracks.  There are 8 tracks; photo, hand made, graphic design, video, dance, music, writing and fine art. Mine is photo of course =) So this is what is different about my DTS from normal DTS. We are the Marriage Of The Arts. We believe that our God is a creative God and has given us art and our creativity to use it to glorify him by sharing his love with others. It is absolutely beautiful walking around school seeing how this all meshes together!

The leader for my photography track is Yahn Schlagel. Amazing missions photographer known world wide.  Only shoots in black and white film and specializes in portraits.  Definitely check out his work! When he stood up and gave an introduction to our track he was a bit intimidating. He had all photographers stand up and notified everyone that if they saw us frustrated, crying and upset that it would be due to our photo track. Haha Yeah. A complete perfectionist who believes in the power of Christ and photography. I am very excited to learn more from him.

This week we are actually going out on our first mini outreach. Which is where we go to surrounding areas using our art to share with people, practicing for our big outreach in a few months. We are currently studying street photography. Our assignment this weekend is to meet people on the streets of Zittau and Lobau and take their portraits. This isn’t like creeper style peeking from behind a building getting Johny Depth’s photo, but going up talking to them and standing 5 inches from their face taking a photo. A little intimidating, especially not knowing much German, but we will definitely rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to use us boldly and fearlessly. I am pretty excited!! My heart beats super fast and loud just thinking about it.

On my walk back from classes. I forgot my straightener back home so I have been rocking the big hair most days. There is so much freedom in completely being yourself and not being self conscious about appearance and what not. A big thing a lot of us have been confronted with here.

Word duty! This is me sweeping our apartment in town. Apartment seiben! We all have work duties every day at the castle or at the apartment. I clean our entire apartment every day. you know Jesus is moving when I don't mind cleaning at all. I usually wake up before everyone else. Listen to worship and clean.

woods!

These are my buddies Luke and Rachel. Rachel is one of my housemates and also in MOTA. Luke is from Austria and is in Mobile school. They are constantly traveling, but I have been able to get to know him for the couple weeks that they have been here. They are actually leaving today for a few weeks on mini outreach here in Germany and then on to Ukraine.

This is the side building of our school. Our big photo project that we have been challenged with is called the Inside Out Project.  Our goal is to cover the whole building with large format photos of things that we have a heart for and things we feel God has a heart for. It is kind of a movement around the world. People are posting massive photos of the poor or people in slavery that you can see from miles away. It has been getting media attention and what not in some parts of the world. With this project and with our art we want to show people God’s kingdom and what matters in his kingdom. It will take an estimated 600 photos to cover the building. And according to John, they will be 600 perfect photos. It is a huge undertaking, but we are excited and believe we can make it happen.

me and my friend Gretchen!!

Our first trip to Dresden. And my first time to use my film camera. So exciting!

Finally got cash out of the ATM!

Yummy brat and potatoes from in Dresden!

Dresden. Frauenkirche church.

We went on a photo shoot near Herrnhut. There is an old abandoned glass warehouse. So cool!

I hope everyone is doing great back home. I miss you guys a ton, but am doing so good over here and growing so much in the Lord.  If you would like to pray for our DTS or for me personally here are some specific things you can be praying about! Thank you so much!

-Sickness. There is a cold going around our school that has got a lot of people not feeling well. We need to be feeling our best to really focus on teachings and be completely well for travels.

-Safety and prepared hearts as we go out on our mini outreach this weekend.

-For God to give us hearts for the nations. We do not know where our big outreach will be in a few months so we are daily asking God for direction and to break our hearts for what breaks his.

-Funding. Lots of people here do not have funds to pay for the entire lecture phase and have no funding for the outreach.

-Personally, for clarity in hearing God daily. And for deeper relationships with friends here at school.
